Trauma is a lived experience and a very personal one at that. A cascade of emotionally charged memories, releasing accompanying hormones, complex feelings and embodiment.

It is a combination that can, and has been proven, to have an overwhelming impact on our physical health, as well as the more familiar impact on our mental health. Influencing how we go about our daily life, how we form our social connections, the fundamental connection we have with ourselves and even the way we move.

The Impact of Trauma

Affects Emotions
Creates Tension
Limits Movement
In modern society it is easily forgotten, more often overlooked, that we were born with a natural instinct to survive and to feel safe within our human form. Although at such a tender age we do not understand it, our bodily safety and our bodily autonomy is part of being who we are. It’s the core fabric of our well-being, be it mentally, emotionally, physically or spiritually.

How Trauma Lives In The Body

When our mind and body autonomy is challenged through life events and circumstances, it can leave us feeling far from safe in the fleshy and neurologically rich home of our bodies, which we inhabit 24 hours a day.

The many clients I have been privileged and humbled to be of service to, trauma was a result of traumatic accidents, life changing surgeries. violence, and active service. With many struggling to understand why they could not seem to get past what happened to them. The situation is complex. Primarily because we are more familiar with the psychological aspect and rarely on how the body can store the trauma.

What Is Trauma Focused & Informed Bodywork?

Trauma focused bodywork evolved naturally, through working with these clients over the years. As a result of plenty of tweaking, fine tuning, and great feedback from a plethora of willing volunteers this approach was born. Combining the therapeutic tool kit on offer, it has helped facilitate a sense of ease and calm in clients with physical trauma, cPTSD, mental health issues and even grief.

So what is it? Trauma Focused & Informed Bodywork is a gentle, hands-on body work that incorporates the effectiveness and ethos of the therapies on offer applied in a slower more resting manner. Making it a fantastic companion to those navigating or having completed their talking therapy journey.

What You May Discover

Working in a deliberately slow manner, we work to bring stillness to your mind and body, promoting the parasympathetic nervous system, enabling you to tune in and reconnect to yourself physically. Promoting safety within your body, to explore where you are holding your tension, emotion and any movement limitations.

For many, they discovered the tightness in their hips, shoulders or their back pain was linked to their emotional status. By engaging with this bodywork, their breath, energy blocks and exploration of movement, through the training gained over many years, individuals get the opportunity to reengage with themselves from their core to their fingers and toes.
